Vol. 418 No. 7

Written Answers. - Immunisation Statistics.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

210 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Health if he has satisfied himself with the present level of uptake of immunisation in the country in general, and in respect of each health board in particular if he will outline, (a) the immunisation targets for each vaccine and (b) the way in which these targets have been met for each year since 1970; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Statistical information on immunisation is published by my Department in its annual report on health statistics and I will arrange to have copies of the relevant statistics made available to the Deputy in the near future.

The preferred level of uptake for all immunisation is 100 per cent as any level of coverage which falls short of this may allow diseases to be transmitted in the community. The level of cover reported to the Department suggests that the level of immunisation is considerably lower than this and I would encourage members of the public to improve their take up of the services available.
