Question:220 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment if he proposes to introduce legislation or regulations to control the activities of driving schools and driving instructors.

I do not propose to regulate the activities of driving schools and driving instructors on a statutory basis. However, my Department have invited the relevant associations to formulate a voluntary registration scheme for driving instructors, in association with the Insurance Federation of Ireland. I understand that the matter is still under consideration by the bodies concerned.
