Vol. 418 No. 7

Written Answers. - Strand (Limerick) Traffic Speed Limit.

Gerard Collins

Question:

237 Mr. Collins asked the Minister for the Environment when an application for an extension of the existing speed limit at Strand village, County Limerick, was received in his Department; when it will be approved; and if he will outline the number of occasions Deputy Collins's office has been in touch with his Department regarding the matter with a view to getting sanction.

A proposal for the introduction of a 40 mph speed limit on the Newcastle-Tournafulla road at Strand is included in a general revision of speed limits in the county submitted by Limerick County Council in March 1991. I will shortly make amending regulations to give effect to this proposal and to the other changes proposed by the council. Written representations from the Deputy in relation to the proposal were received on one occasion and telephone inquiries from the Deputy's office were received on a number of occasions. No record of the frequency of these latter inquiries is available.
