Vol. 418 No. 7

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Michael Creed

Question:

338 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the reduction in the weekly rate of unemployment assistance currently being paid to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

The weekly rate of unemployment assistance payable to the person concerned was reduced, with effect from 8 April 1992, following a reassessment of his means. The reassessment was based on the yearly value of capital and income from self-employment.

The person concerned has appealed this decision to the independent social welfare appeals office and his appeal will be considered by an appeals officer as soon as possible.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

339 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will confirm that an application for dental benefit was received from a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7; if he will outline when the application was received; if a decision has yet been made on the application; and if not, if he will confirm that dental benefit will now be approved.

There is no record of an application for dental benefit from the person concerned. However, the governing contribution condition which requires an insured person to have a total of 208 contributions paid is not satisfied on the insured person's record. He does not, therefore, qualify for dental benefit under the Department's treatment benefit scheme.
