Question:

342 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Labour if he will outline the total numbers in general service grades who have left his Department through, (a) retirement, (b) resignation, (c) death in service, (d) career break and (e) for any other reason for each of the years 1985 to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The total numbers of civil servants from my Department in general service grades who left the Civil Service under the various headings requested by the Deputy are set out in the following tabular statement:

With regard to 1988 and 1989, the figures for retirements include those who retired under the public service voluntary early retirement scheme.
As regards "any other reason", the figures shown result primarily from the transfer of officers out of the Civil Service to employment with An Foras Áiseanna Saothair in accordance with the provisions of the Labour Services Act, 1987.
