Vol. 418 No. 7

Written Answers. - Company Cash Transfer.

Jim Higgins

Question:

40 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will confirm the published statements by the Taoiseach that the management of a company (details supplied) transferred between £6 million and £7 million company cash to its United Kingdom operations; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A press release issued by the company shortly after the appointment of the Receiver stated that the company accounts "show that there is approximately £5 million due by the UK Group" to the company. There have also been press reports, which have not been denied, that meat to the value of £6 million or so had been moved by the company to associated companies in the UK and that substantial sums of money are owing to the company by associated companies in the UK. The Taoiseach did not specify the amounts that might have been involved and he pointed out that the exact position could not be known pending a full examination.
