Question:

132 Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for Justice if he has received representations from an estate (details supplied) in Dublin 22 regarding the provision of an adequate number of community gardaí; the proposals, if any, he has for the matter of community policing for the area in question; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 131 and 132 together.

I have received representations on behalf of local residents about the assignment of community gardaí to the estates in question. I am informed by the Garda authorities that a community garda will be appointed to these estates within the coming fortnight as a replacement for a member who was recently assigned to other duties. The question of assigning additional community gardaí to the estates concerned is being kept under review in the light of overall manpower commitments at Clondalkin station.
