Vol. 418 No. 8

Written Answers. - Greencore Inquiry Costs.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

13 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will outline the steps he proposes to take, in conjunction with the Ministers for Finance, Justice and Agriculture and Food to recoup in full to the taxpayer the costs of the inquiries related to the Greencore affair; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I would refer the Deputy to the replies by my colleague, the Minister for Justice, to questions in this House on 10 March 1992 and 24 March 1992 where he adverted to an application seeking the direction of the High Court for full recovery of the costs of the investigation conducted under the aegis of the Court. I understand that the matter was heard by the High Court on 31 March 1992 to 2 April 1992 based on the application by the Minister for Justice and judgment was reserved. The court's ruling has not yet been given.

There is no provision in the Companies Act for the recovery of the costs of the investigation conducted under section 14 of the 1990 Act into the ownership of certain companies in the group.
