Question:

52 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health the amount of additional revenue which has been allocated to his Department since the introduction of the health contribution levy; if he will outline the additional health services which have been put in place with the revenue from this levy; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The level of total approved spending for the public health services in any one year is decided upon by Government. The yield from health contributors is one element in the appropriations-in-aid which is taken into account in determining both the total spending and the net financial requirements of the Health Vote. Health contributions revenue is not additional to the level of expenditure approved by the Government as set out in the annual estimates. The yield from health contributions in each year from 1971-1972 to 1991 is as follows:
