Vol. 418 No. 9

Written Answers. - Redundancy Figures.

Michael Ferris

Question:

72 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Labour the number of notified redundancies to his Department for the first three months of each year from 1980 to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The information sought by the Deputy, in respect of the years since 1981, when monthly figures began to be compiled, is set out in a tabular statement which I propose to circulate in the Official Report.

It will be seen from the statement that, while the figure for the number of redundancies notified to the Department in the first three months of 1992 — 4,921 — shows an increase on the corresponding figures for the years 1989 to 1991, it is lower than the notifications in any of the years 1982 to 1988 and substantially beneath the peak figure of 7,634 in that period which was recorded in the first three months of 1983.

Redundancy Payments Acts.

Redundancies notified by employers for the months January-March since 1981.
