Vol. 418 No. 9

Written Answers. - Representations to Malawi Authorities.

Peter Barry

Question:

101 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he has protested to the Malawi Government over the recent expulsion from the country of two Irish priests.

The Malawi authorities have been made fully aware of the Government's concerns about the recent expulsion of an Irish priest and the cancellation of the re-entry visa of another. Our Ambassador in London made a formal approach to the Malawi High Commissioner on 22 April and the matter has also been taken up at EC level. We are currently awaiting the response of the Malawi authorities.
