Vol. 418 No. 9

Written Answers. - Industrial Relations Legislation.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

112 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Labour whether he has proposals for legislation in the area of industrial relations, and in particular in relation to monopolies.

The Industrial Relations Act, 1990, put in place an improved framework for the general conduct of industrial relations and for the resolution of trade disputes. The Act has been in place for a relatively short period, and the provisions in relation to secret ballots and injunctions do not come into effect until July 1992. However the indications are that it is operating successfully. There are, therefore, no plans at present for further legislation in this area.

Legislation dealing specifically with monopolies would not be the responsibility of the Department of Labour.
