Vol. 419 No. 1

Written Answers. - Otter Hunting Licences.

Tony Gregory

Question:

80 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Finance if he has received any applications so far this year for otter hunting licences; and if he will outline his policy in this regard.

While the otter is a protected species under the Wildlife Act, 1976, the Act also provides that licences to hunt this species may be issued.

No applications have been received this year for such licences. I will examine any applications for such licences under the Act having regard to the conservation of the species and Ireland's international position in respect of it.
