Vol. 419 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Motor Cycle Suits.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

79 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Finance if he will confirm that tenders for 500 motor bike suits for members of the Garda Síochána have been sought; the number of firms who have submitted tenders; the number of these firms who are Irish manufactured by an English company; if this company have gone into liquidation; if the tender will be granted to an Irish company on the basis of import substitution, competitive price and superior design; when a decision will be made on who is the successful company; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Tenders were invited recently for the supply of motor cycle suits to the Garda Síochána. Three firms submitted quotations, two Irish and one UK based. The contract has been awarded to an Irish manufacturing firm who submitted the most economically advantageous offer.

The previous supply of suits was manufactured by an English based company which has ceased trading since January of this year.
