Vol. 419 No. 1

Written Answers. - Health (Nursing Homes) Act, 1990.

Edward Nealon

Question:

132 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Health if a date has now been fixed for bringing into effect the provisions of the Health (Nursing Homes) Act, 1990, which would enable the health boards to make subventions to provide nursing homes; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Drafting of the regulations necessary to implement the Health (Nursing Homes) Act, 1990, is at an advanced stage. It is hoped to commence discussions in the near future with nursing home interests and groups representing the elderly on a system of subvention under the Act. It is my intention to bring the Act into effect as soon as possible.
