Vol. 419 No. 2

Written Answers. - Kildare Street (Dublin) Buildings.

Ivor Callely

Question:

41 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Finance when funds will be made available to upgrade and restore the facades of national buildings in Kildare Street, Dublin 2; if he will give details of the buildings which have been identified for such necessary work; and whether priority has been given to this project.

The Commissioners of Public Works bear overall responsibility for ensuring that all Government buildings are properly maintained. This includes the cleaning and repair of stonework. To this end the Commissioners regularly inspect all State buildings under their control and set maintenance priorities.

The Commissioners are aware that the facades of a number of the State-owned buildings on Kildare Street require attention and propose appropriate action.

Work will commence this year on major repairs to the facade of Agriculture House and on the cleaning of the stonework on the Department of Industry and Commerce building.

Provision has also been made this year for some cleaning and exploratory work to the exterior of the National Museum and a start is to be made this year on the cleaning, and repair of the Kildare Street facade of Leinster House.

Consideration is also being given to the possibility of carrying our similar work to the National Library.
