Question:61 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for Health if he proposes to introduce a drug purchasing policy at national level for all health boards.

An inter-departmental group was established last year to examine all factors which influence the cost of medicines to the Exchequer and to make recommendations on possible strategies to be pursued to contain or reduce costs. This group is expected to report in the near future and I will be considering all aspects of the purchasing and supply of drugs and medicines in the light of its recommendations.
