Vol. 419 No. 2

Written Answers. - Operations Waiting List.

Paul McGrath

Question:

66 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Health if he will give details of the number of people awaiting hip operations in the Midland Health Board area; the number that are being completed each month; and if he will outline the steps he is taking to reduce the waiting time.

There are currently 90 patients awaiting hip-replacement operations in the Midland Health Board area. The number of operations performed each month can vary. It is anticipated that between 12 and 16 operations will be carried out per month in 1992.

Plans are under way to enhance orthopaedic services at Tullamore General Hospital, through the appointment of a third consultant orthopaedic surgeon and the expansion of theatre facilities.
