83 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will outline, (a) the further sectoral reviews, if any, which took place in 1991, (b) the extent of overpayments which were detected in the area of social welfare and (c) whether any of these overpayments were in relation to the public sector employees.
In 1991, my Department's Inspectors undertook some additional 12,000 inspections of employers. These inspections extended over all sectors. Figures are not maintained in a format which would enable the Department to separate the overpayments arising from these additional inspections from overpayments arising from other investigative work in this area nor are overpayment figures available on a sectoral basis.
