Vol. 419 No. 6

Written Answers. - Domicilliary Care Allowance.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

141 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement on the delays being experienced by many parents in relation to the payment of domiciliary care allowance to qualified applicants in the Southern Health Board region.

The Southern Health Board has indicated that the average length of time taken to process applications for Domiciliary Care Allowance is approximately two months. I understand from the Board that delays have occurred in the case of 10 applications. This is due to the delays in the submission to the Board of medical reports. Where applicants are found eligible for the allowance, full arrears to the date of application will be paid. The Board is reviewing with immediate effect the cases which are currently on hand.
