Written Answers. - Phoenix Park.

Dermot Fitzpatrick

Question:

170 Dr. Fitzpatrick asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the coping stones on the Phoenix Park wall, from the Cabra gate to the gate opposite Grangegorman cemetry, are loose and that some of them have fallen to the ground and pose a danger to the public; if he will outline the steps, if any, he is taking to remedy this danger; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that the coping stones on the Phoenix Park wall, from the Cabra gate to the gate opposite Grangegorman cemetry, are loose and that some have fallen to the ground.

Arrangements are in hand to have these stones replaced and fixed in position within the next few days.

Question:

171 Dr. Fitzpatrick asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the information plates on the stands in the Phoenix Park have been vandalised and stolen; if he will ensure that the information plates are affixed to the stands in a permanent manner; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that 15 of the 77 information plates in the Phoenix Park have been stolen or vandalised.

In the light of experience with these plates, investigations are currently under way to see if more secure plates can be used.

Unfortunately, it has to be accepted that total security may involve a prohibitive cost.
