Vol. 419 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Attendance.

Dick Spring

Question:

178 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Education if he will outline any specific plans he has for the implementation of reforms which would ensure the continued school attendance of long term homeless children under the age of 16.

My Department is currently reviewing the operation of the School Attendance Acts as part of the preparatory work for new legislation in education.

Discussions will be held with the Department of Health in relation to appropriate provision for the education of children who are homeless in the context of the provision of the Child Care Act of 1991.
