Vol. 419 No. 6

Written Answers. - Ennis (Clare) Hospital.

Madeleine Taylor-Quinn

Question:

207 Mrs. Taylor-Quinn asked the Minister for Health if he is prepared to review the overall health services in County Clare with a view to providing 100 beds in Ennis General Hospital.

The responsibility for providing hospital services in County Clare is a matter for the Mid-Western Health Board in the first instance.

A development plan for the acute hospital service in the Mid-Western Health Board region was adopted by the Board in March 1988 and forms the basis for the Board's policy on the service provided in County Clare.

The current number of beds in Ennis General Hospital, including 6 day beds, is 84.

The opening of a ten-bed acute geriatric assessment unit, which will take place later this year, will bring the total complement to 94 beds.

I wish to assure the Deputy that Ennis General Hospital will continue to provide an integral and important part of the general hospital service in the Mid-Western Health Board area.
