Vol. 419 No. 7

Written Answers. - Psychological Services.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

83 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Education if he will outline the improvements he intends to make in back-up services to psychological, services; if he has had any discussions with the Minister for Health in relation to these; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department has established a pilot psychological service for primary schools. This service currently operates in two designated areas, Tallaght/Clondalkin and South Tipperary, and its effectiveness will be evaluated before consideration is given to any further expansion of the service.

The question of support services for children with special education needs is one of the matters being considered in the context of on-going discussions between officials of my Department and the Department of Health.
