Vol. 419 No. 7

Written Answers. - Group Water Schemes.

Neil T.C. Blaney

Question:

121 Mr. Blaney asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the Ballyboe/ Iskaheen group water scheme in County Donegal has been under consideration by his Department since 1976, and if, in view of the long delay, he will sanction the necessary funding to enable the scheme to proceed without further delay.

The group's proposal, submitted in July, 1988 would serve up to 51 houses at an estimated cost of £170,000. Based on current membership, group water scheme grants would amount to £45,300. While it would be possible to consider approving standard grants of £700 per house and £500 per farm, it would not be practicable for my Department to contribute further to this high unit-cost scheme in present budgetary circumstances.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

122 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Environment when his Department propose to commence the Tarmuid No. 2 water scheme, County Galway, and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The group was requested by Galway County Council in August, 1991 to forward oustanding documentation. The proposal will be considered further when this is received in my Department.
