Vol. 419 No. 10

Written Answers. - CIE Ticket Sales Investigation.

Ivan Yates

Question:

17 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if she will outline the outcome of all investigations into the alleged missing £250,000 worth of CIÉ ticket sales last year; whether the fraud squad and the Garda authorities have completed their inquiries in this regard; if it has been established that there was ever any money missing, or could it alternatively be explained due to lack of proper supervision in relation to the issuing of the tickets to agents; if she will further outline the scrutiny procedures in relation to the issuing of such tickets; if she has satisfied herself that over the last four years there has been sufficient controls in place to ensure no fraud or abuse; whether the internal auditor's report into this matter within CIE will be published; if blame can be attached to any one person or persons in relation to the whole matter; if any group or evidence has been obtained against the agent against whom the allegations of fraud were initially made; whether it can be confirmed that a fire took place at the aforesaid agent's property and that this might explain the disappearance of certain tickets; if she will confirm that there were fraud procedures in relation to the issuing of tickets to agents for some time; if she has satisfied herself that there has been no cover up by any party in relation to any possible maladministation or mismanagement; when all these matters will be concluded and the findings revealed in the public interest; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I understand that this matter is the subject of ongoing Garda investigation. In such circumstances it would not be appropriate for me to comment further at this stage.
