Vol. 420 No. 3

Written Answers. - Environmental Quality Standards.

Ivor Callely

Question:

136 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment if it has been brought to his attention that Ireland breached its obligations under any of the EC directives on bathing water or air quality; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Extensive monitoring is carried out by local authorities in relation to these environmental quality standards. Details of all monitoring results for bathing water quality are published annually in my Department's Environment Bulletin. Details of all air quality standard monitoring are contained in the Environmental Research Unit Data Base to which access is offered by ENFO.

My Department reports regularly to the EC Commission on compliance by Ireland with the Directives concerned, which is generally very good.
