Vol. 420 No. 3

Written Answers. - Area Partnerships Scheme.

Michael Ferris

Question:

172 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Labour if he will extend the scheme announced on 30 April, 1992 to adjoining areas in the area partnerships scheme to help long term unemployed people; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

On 30th April, 1992, the Taoiseach announced a number of special measures, aimed at reducing long term unemployment in the twelve Area Partnerships established under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress. These measures are being introduced on a pilot basis and, in these circumstances, will be implemented strictly for the twelve areas and strictly for long term unemployed people in those areas.

The precise details of the implementation of the measures are currently being finalised by the Departments of the Taoiseach, Finance, Social Welfare and my own Department.
