Vol. 420 No. 6

Written Answers. - Programme for Darndale (Dublin).

Patrick McCartan

Question:

150 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the various submissions made to him by Dublin Corporation with regard to the development and progress of the redesign programme for Darndale, Dublin 17 and the substance of these submissions; when the submissions and representations were received from Dublin Corporation; when they were responded to; the number of applications for permission to tender the various phases of the redesign scheme that have been received to date; the date of receipt, the date of agreement and the date of commencement of those stages of the scheme as have been undertaken to date; if he has received a request for the amalgamation of a number of the phases of the scheme in order to speed up the process; if he will approve such an approach; and if he will make a statement on the overall speed of the scheme.

The information sought, in so far as it is available in the Department, in relation to the refurbishment of the Darndale estate is being compiled and will be sent to the Deputy as soon as possible.

The allocations made to Dublin Corporation under the remedial works scheme total £25.306 million. This includes £5.6 million for 1992 — some 40 per cent of the total available.

The planning and carrying out of remedial works to their dwellings are matters for Dublin Corporation who are also responsible for the apportionment of their annual capital allocation between their housing estates designated for funding under the remedial works scheme. The normal practice in refurbishment projects is for work to be carried out on a phased basis.
