Vol. 420 No. 6

Written Answers. - Blackpool (Cork) Bypass.

Gerry O'Sullivan

Question:

155 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for the Environment when the environmental impact study on the Blackpool bypass, County Cork, will be concluded; if there are any delays regarding compulsory purchase orders; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In January last, additional information was requested from Cork Corporation in relation to the effects on the environment of this proposed development. The information was received in my Department on 22 April 1992 and is being examined. It will have to be made available for inspection by the public and interested persons will be afforded the opportunity of making submissions to me before a decison can be made on the question of whether the project is acceptable on environmental grounds.

A Compulsory Purchase Order for the acquisition of lands for the construction of Stage 2 of the Blackpool By-Pass was received from Cork Corporation in June, 1991. A number of objections to the confirmation of the Order have been received. Processing of the Order must await the outcome of the Environmental Impact Assessment of the scheme.
