Vol. 420 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Clare Primary School.

Madeleine Taylor-Quinn

Question:

67 Mrs. Taylor-Quinn asked the Minister for Education when he will sanction an Irish unit in a post-primary school (details supplied) in County Clare; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department originally received an application for sanction to establish an Ennis all-Irish post-primary school in the centre referred to by the Deputy.

My Department considers that, at present, a separate all-Irish school would not be viable development in the centre and the applicant body has been so informed.

A revised application for the establishment of an all-Irish unit attached to an existing post-primary school has now been lodged and is being considered by my Department.

A meeting has been arranged for Thursday, 11 June between Department officials and the parents representative group which is promoting the establishment of the unit.

I am not, therefore, in a position at present to give a decision in relation to this application until the appropriate examination and discussion are completed.
