Vol. 420 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Forest Premium Payment.

Austin Deasy

Question:

14 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Energy if he will give an increased payment under the forest premium for farmers scheme to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford in view of the fact that he is receiving less than the original flat rate of £35 per acre and the area of enclosed hectares should be much higher, and if he will re-examine the case.

The person in question was approved for a forest premium under my Department's forest premium scheme in respect of 19 hectares of land afforested by him. Of this, five hectares were approved at the enclosed rate of £116 per hectare — £47 per acre — and 14 hectares at the unenclosed rate of £50 per hectare — £20 per acre. The applicant has since appealed the classification given to the land and I am having the case re-examined as a result of that appeal.

I thank the Minister for his reply. I would appreciate it if he would ensure that the appeal is successful.
