Vol. 420 No. 9

Written Answers. - Ownership of Minerals.

Frank Crowley

Question:

35 Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for Energy if he has any plans to amend the Mineral Development Act, 1979 to end legal uncertainty in relation to ownership of minerals.

The Minerals Development Act, 1979 does not directly address matters of ownership of minerals but rather the vesting in the Minister for Energy of the exclusive right of working minerals, and related matters. I am not aware of any legal uncertainty in this area or in relation to ownership of minerals. Accordingly, I have no plans at present to amend the Minerals Development Act, 1979.
