Phil Hogan

Question:

82 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Finance if he will list wholly or mainly vacant premises in the possession of the Office of Public Works by way of ownership or leasehold interest where at least five years are unexpired; and if he will specify within the greater Dublin area (a) the postal address and (b) the approximate vacant floor area in each instance.

The only significant premises which fall into the categories in question are set out below. All are State owned.

Tenders for refurbishing are being examined. Work will commence shortly. The accommodation has been assigned to Land Registry, Revenue and Social Welfare for document storage.

GHQ Building, Infirmary Road

1,800 m²

Not suitable for occupation at present. Refurbishment plans prepared and works to be carried out as funds allow.

Dublin Castle

—Clock Tower Building

800 m²

Not suitable for occupation at present. Restoration of buildings in Dublin Castle is progressing satisfactorily in stages. Refurbishment plans for both buildings have been prepared and works will be undertaken as funds permit following completion of the present phase of refurbishment in the Lower Castle Yard.

—Ship Street Barracks

1,900 m²

Beggars Bush Barracks (part)

1,800 m²

Arrangements for sale in preparation.

Departments are responsible for the day to day administration of the accommodation allocated to them. Their management of the accommodation can give rise to short term domestic adjustments and arrangements which would result in space being vacant for temporary periods.
