Vol. 421 No. 1

Written Answers. - Ambulance Services.

Michael Creed

Question:

49 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Health if he intends making funds available to the Southern Health Board to provide for the replacement of an unroadworthy mobile ambulance control unit; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Arrangements for the provision of ambulance services in the Southern Health Board region are a matter for the Southern Health Board in the first instance.

The Southern Health Board had been in contact with my Department in relation to the replacement of the mobile control vehicle which is stationed at Tralee General Hospital.

This request will be considered as sympathetically as possible in the context of the many competing demands for resources and the board's priorities for developments.

As the Deputy will be aware, a major review of the ambulance services is currently being undertaken by my Department, together with the health boards. It would be intended that the recommendations of the review group in relation to the provision of these services would be taken into account by the health boards when considering any future developments in this area.
