Vol. 421 No. 4

Written Answers. - Kinsale (Cork) Garda Station.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

137 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Justice whether he accepts that the accommodation at the Garda Station in Kinsale is hopelessly inadequate for the Garda complement of two sergeants and nine Gardaí and if he will now confirm that the proposal made four years ago to extend the station into the adjoining property, also owned by the State, can now proceed without further delay.

It is proposed to extend the existing Garda Station at Kinsale. This will involve converting the adjoining married quarters and carrying out alterations to the main station building. Plans have been drawn up for this project. It is not possible to state when work will commence — this will be determined in the light of overall priorities and available finance — but I can assure the Deputy that there will be no avoidable delay.
