Vol. 421 No. 4

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Payments.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

314 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will request the Eastern Health Board to ensure that a person (details supplied) in Dublin 6 receives all benefits, including supplementary welfare allowance payments, to which he is entitled.

Under the provisions of the supplementary welfare allowance scheme the determination of applications for assistance is a matter for each health board. It is understood from the Eastern Health Board, that the person in question is currently in receipt of a basic weekly payment of supplementary welfare allowance and a supplement in respect of his rent. The Minister for Social Welfare has no function in respect of other benefits administered by the health boards.

The person concerned had applied for disability benefit from the Department but was unable to qualify as his PRSI record was insufficient to satisfy the contribution conditions for benefit.
