Vol. 421 No. 5

Written Answers. - Speech Therapy Services.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

16 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the improvements he intends to make in back-up services to speech therapy services.

I have established a Review Group to make recommendations for the expansion and improvement of services for people with a physical disability within the framework of the commitments in relation to the physically disabled contained in the Programme for Economic and Social Progress. The first meeting of the group will be held on 30 June. One of the matters to be addressed by the group will be the improvement of speech therapy provision including back-up services throughout the country.

I have arranged to meet the head of the Speech Therapy School in Trinity College to see which specific measures can be taken to increase the availability of speech therapists.
