Vol. 421 No. 8

Written Answers. - Cork Counselling and Psychotherapy Centre.

Bernard Allen

Question:

169 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will outline his proposals in order to ensure that the Cork Counselling and Psychotherapy Centre does not become merely a crisis management service due to the scarcity of funds; and if he will make an allocation of £125,000 in order that it can carry out its commitments.

I am impressed by the valuable and worthwhile work undertaken by the Cork Counselling and Psychotherapy Centre. I have been in touch with the Southern Health Board regarding the possibility of providing funding for the centre. I have asked the board to meet with representatives of the centre to discuss the co-ordinated development of counselling services.

Under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress the Government are committed to the planned expansion and development of community based services, which will, of necessity, have to be implemented in a phased and progressive manner over a number of years, as resources allow.
