Vol. 421 No. 8

Written Answers. - Irish Students in Germany.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

203 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs whether he has had reports of campsite and hostel problems faced by Irish students who are working temporarily in Germany this summer; if so, if he will outline the steps, if any, he is taking to clarify and deal with these problems; and whether he will raise this matter at ministerial level if it cannot be resolved by officials of his Department.

Following recent reports of difficulties being experienced by Irish students in the Munich area, an official from our Embassy in Bonn travelled to Munich last week and had discussions with groups of Irish students, St. Killian's Irish Centre, the owners of the campsite where many Irish students are living, the local employment and foreigner registration offices and the local police authorities. When I have studied the Embassy's detailed report I will consider what scope may exist for further action to overcome the present difficulties.
