Question:

49 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Defence if he will outline, in respect of each of the past five years, the number of persons selected for training as pilots who did not complete their flying training; if he will further outline the steps which are being taken to address this problem; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Since 1987 a total of 32 officers, detailed as follows, have not completed flying training:

A new system for the selection of pilots has been introduced and all the indications are that this will lead to a substantial reduction in the failure rate during flying training.
