Vol. 421 No. 8

Written Answers. - Ministerial Staff.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

101 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice if he will give details of the total number of staff, either full-time or part-time, working (a) in his private ministerial office, (b) in his constituency office and (c) elsewhere in his Department but working personally for him; if he will outline (1) the number, if any, working for him under consultancy agreements or contracts and (2) the salary level or fees payable in each case; and if he will list the names of the people in each case.

The number of staff working in my private office is five, one higher executive officer with private secretary allowance, two executive officers, one clerical officer and one clerical assistant. There are six staff in my constituency office, three executive officers, two clerical assistants and one personal secretary who is paid on the secretarial assistant scale plus an allowance of £14.93 per week. In addition, four staff, one clerical officer and three clerical assistants, are engaged on typing duties for both those offices. All the staff concerned are full-time.

Carr Communications Limited have been retained by my Department as public relations and media training consultants to provide services for me and my Department. The number of persons engaged varies from time to time and is a matter for the company.

The fee payable in respect of the public relations element of the contract is £1,366 per month; the fee in respect of the media training element has not yet been finalised.
