Vol. 421 No. 9

Written Answers. - Private Buses.

Ivan Yates

Question:

102 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of recent events, he has satisfied himself with the mechanical condition of private buses; and if in consultation with the Ministers for the Environment and Justice, he will outline whether the matter is being investigated and the procedures and checks which will be put in place to ensure that all private buses are being properly maintained so as to protect the safety of the public.

I refer to the replies to Questions Nos. 67 of 28 February 1990 and 260 of 23 June 1992. Enforcement of the regulations in relation to the construction and roadworthiness of buses is a matter for the Garda Síochána. If the Deputy is aware of specific instances of alleged failure by bus operators to comply with the regulations, the matter should be brought to the attention of the Garda.
