Vol. 421 No. 9

Written Answers. - Aircraft Crew Conditions Harmonisation.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

20 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if she will outline the progress, if any, which has been made by the Joint Aviation Authorities Operational Committee regarding the proposed harmonisation of flight and duty time limitations and rest requirements for aircraft crews; when it is expected that the review will be finished; if the Irish authorities have made a submission; if so, if she will outline the main points of any such submission; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The proposed harmonisation of flight and duty time limitations and rest requirements is part of a comprehensive volume of operational requirements being drawn up by the Joint Aviation Authorities, of which Ireland is a member.

An official from my Department is a member of this committee and he took into account the views received from Irish operators and pilot organisations, during committee discussions. No formal submission, as such, was made to the committee by my Department.

I understand that examination of the proposals by the committee are well advanced and that final endorsement of the proposals by the committee may be available later this year.
