Vol. 421 No. 9

Written Answers. - Glenties (Donegal) School.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

70 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education the reason the number of teachers at Glenties national school, County Donegal is being reduced from seven to six despite assurances which were given when the boys and girls national schools were amalgamated several years ago.

The boys and girls national schools, Glenties, County Donegal were amalgamated in September 1987. The combined enrolment of the two schools was 229 pupils in the 1986-87 school year. This enrolment warranted a staff of principal, vice principal and five assistants, a total of seven teachers which was the number of teachers in the two schools.

The enrolment in the school has since dropped to 195 which under the current staffing schedule warrants a staff of principal, vice principal and four assistants.
