90 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if she intends to seek the necessary funding from the European Community rail routes other than those already outlined; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
I am at present awaiting the outcome of the strategic study on the railway for which consultants have been engaged by my Department. The consultant's report is expected later this summer. This work will be an important element in the formulation of an investment programme for the national railway network to be submitted to the EC authorities for assistance from the Structural Funds. I am determined to ensure that public transport secures a significantly greater share of available EC funds for future investment than in the past.
