Vol. 422 No. 1

Written Answers. - Salmon Prices.

Monica Barnes

Question:

50 Mrs. Barnes asked the Minister for the Marine if, in view of the worsening price of salmon in Europe, he will make efforts to have the minimum import price for salmon reintroduced; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am very concerned at the trend in salmon prices on the European market in the aftermath of the expiry at the end of May of the minimum import price system.

I have written to the Vice-President of the Commission, Mr. Marin, emphasising the seriousness of the situation. I am pressing strongly for the taking of whatever steps may be necessary, including the re-introduction of the minimum import price system, to bring about stability in the market.
