Vol. 422 No. 1

Written Answers. - Lottery Funds.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

61 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Education if the board of management of Monivea national school, Monivea, Athenry, County Galway, can make an application for national lottery funds to build a boundary wall around the school; if national lottery funds can be used for this purpose; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Provision is made in my Department's Vote for First-Level Education for capital expenditure funded from the proceeds of the national lottery. These funds are, however, specifically allocated for works on Special Schools for Children in Care only, and the proposed scheme at Monivea national school would not, therefore, be eligible for financial assistance from this source.

It would, of course, be open to the School's Board of Management to apply for Exchequer funded grant-aid for this project in the usual manner.
