Vol. 423 No. 1

Written Answers. - Baldoyle (Dublin) Community School.

Roger T. Garland

Question:

198 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for Education the reason fencing has been erected along the far side of the right of way beside St. Nessan's Community School in Baldoyle, Dublin 13, thus creating a tunnelling effect but which does not protect the school; if he will give details of the cost involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Fencing was required at St. Nessan's community school for security reasons and because of a risk to the safety of pupils and the public as a result of the unauthorised grazing of horses on a vacant part of the site. The cost involved was in the region of £9,000.

There is no public right of way through the school but a pathway has been left open to facilitate local residents who use the grounds for access to the local DART station. However, the access is allowed at the discretion of the school authorities and if further problems arise its closure may have to be considered.
