Vol. 423 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dublin Schools.

Tony Gregory

Question:

232 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education if the two north inner city schools in Dublin 7 sharing facilities with over 300 pupils are entitled to a full-time secretary under the disadvantaged scheme; when the secretary will be provided; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Under the terms of the Programme for Economic and Social Progress a phased programme of financial assistance by way of a supplementary capitation grant for the provision of caretaking and clerical services in national schools has been introduced from the 1st September 1992. The initial phase of the programme has targeted schools with enrolments of 500 pupils or over which have not had caretaking and/or clerical assistance already.

It is not possible at this stage to state when the schools in question might be assisted at a later phase of the programme. I should add that the arrangements in the programme are complemented by provisions under the Social Employment Scheme.
